Before
you buy new equipment, you need to know if you have the right connections
to hook up your new product to your exisiting system (even if your "system" is
just your TV)
There
are accessories available if you need more connections or to adapt
some types of connections to other types. These include
"rf modulators" for connecting RCA composite connections to
a TV with only an antenna; splitters for cable signals; audio/video selectors
for sets with not enough inputs. And now, hdmi switchers. (You'll want
to be sure to get a powered hdmi switcher.)
Make
a list of all of the inputs (connections that carry signal
coming in to the device) and all of the outputs (connections
that carry signal coming out of the device).
The benefits of getting to know your connections are:
- Knowing
which connection you used for each component will
help you to change the source of picture and sound
for your TV or home theater receiver.
- If
you want to upgrade the quality of your picture or
sound, you may want to use different connections
and/or different cables than you are using now...you'll
need to know what your connection options are.
- And,
of course, know all of your connections on all of
your equipment before you hook it up for the first
time or after moving the system.
